Narendra Rocherolle has alerted me last Friday that Webshots had released an early cut of the Shoebox. The shoebox is photo bookmarking site, integrating pictures from websites, RSS feeds and links. One can then choose which pictures to tag and add to his/her shoebox.
Which means that you can do a mash’up of different sources, homogeinize the tags (the tags used for each picture are suggested by default), and re-syndicate – which means that it does not matter that much where the image comes from, since it is re-aggregated and re-distributed. I am sure that this is a functionality that is going to be available from most of the players eventually, since every application wants to be the ultimate “eyeball bandit” (term cornered by Jurvie).
One thing I have not quite figured yet is how to “connect” with other people shoeboxes.
The same result could be achieved with Wists I suppose, but the sole focus on photo management of Nick and Narendra promises to deliver an interesting application. One could not expect these guys to sit quiet through the photo-sharing “social revolution”. What I am not sure about is whether the Shoebox is the first visible result of the Heypix acquisition earlier this year, or if the project was already underway. More information about this will come on the shoebox blog.
I had not spotted Narendra’s recent posts since he moved to WordPress without telling anyone, but do check out his comments on the image search market (and read that one as well whilst you’re at it :-).
