Tony sums it all in his post:
The ladies behind the BlogherCon discussion have officially announced their conference, to be called BlogHer. The conference is a one-day event scheduled for July 30th 2005 @ the TechMart in Santa Clara, CA. Registration is $99.06, with comp'ed tickets (for volunteers) and sponsorships available.
In a very clever spin, the organizers have created an offering called "A room of your own", allowing potential speakers/moderators to take over a room (for a chunk of time) and hold a discussion of a topic of their choosing. An excellent idea (though probably tough to parcel out fairly). [...]
I am looking forward to attending this one, and do hope that the organizhers will make a point of producing something different. Let's try and help with volunteering - blogging or other logistics - and sponsorships. I enrolled for live blogging support, we'll see where that goes (Suggestion: get boys to pay for that privilege :-).
Update: David Weinberger plugged the conference during a 90-seconds MSNBC ("jarvis-ing") segment on blogs this afternoon. Video is here. Site launched yesterday, on TV today. Whao.
More: Lisa Stone (aka Surfette), Elisa Camahort (aka WorkerBees), Jory des Jardins
Thanks Jeff--for this post and for volunteering to live-blog part of the proceedings in French.
Per your note above "(Suggestion: get boys to pay for that privilege :-)" how about this: Nancy White, who's on our advisory board, just suggested, "Are you a person who can afford to support the participation of [a] woman? I challenge you to make that offer. Find a voice who would otherwise be unrepresented. Find a way to help her come."
If you or any other members of the VC community would like to offer a scholarship, the cost is only $99 per.
Thanks again.
