Almost three weeks ago, I attended my first Mobile Monday meeting. It was held in the Valley for the first time, on the Microsoft Mountain View campus, and gathered about 100 people.
I had heard a lot of good things about "MOMO" and was quite impressed by the line-up of speakers:
- Marc Davis - an assistant professor at the School of information management and systems (SIMS) at the University of California at Berkeley, where he directs Garage Cinema Research. His work is focused on creating the technology and applications that will enable daily media consumers to become daily media producers.
- Anita Wilhelm - an interaction designer working with mobile device interface design for the past two years. Currently working with camera phones and mobile media. Anita is going to tell us about one of her current projects, Caterpillar Mobile. Caterpillar Mobile is focused on developing multimedia games specifically for handheld devices. Her ultrashort summary: Mobile Media Fun.
- Ted Shelton - one of the founding members of this group, Ted has recently taken a position as EVP of Operations for Orb Networks. There was a lot of interest in Orb at the last meeting, and Ted has volunteered himself to come fill us in. Here's a one sentence summary: "The groundbreaking Orb Architecture allows users to access music, live television, videos, photos and other digital content from any device that can connect to the Internet, such as a cell phone, PDA, or notebook."
- Idetic, Inc., represented by Alan Moskowitz - the developer of MobiTV, the first global television network that delivers live television programming and on-demand multi-media content to mobile phones.
I am so late in producing a report that it is embarassing. Niall Kennedy has done a great job at summarizing the four sessions: Marc Davis, Alan Moskowitz, Anita Wilhelm, Ted Shelton, as well as providing an audio track.
I just had time to load a few pictures:

The next Mobile Monday will be focused on Mobile Gaming, and should be most interesting again.
